True or False: Nail Edition

This maybe hard to believe, but I spent the first nineteen years of my life not really caring about nail polish, or nail care! Crazy huh? When I first got interested, I was told a lot of untrue things via magazine's and old wives (actually old Gram's) tales. But I love all the readers of my blog and I don't want you guys to have to deal with wrong information. So Here we go:

Keeping nail polish in the refrigerator will keep it fresher
FALSE! This dries out nail polish.

Dark Nail Polish will change the color of your nails
TRUE! Dark nail polishes like blue, brown, or black can temporary discolor your nails. But the staining isn't bad for your nails, just ugly.

To get stronger nails, use polishes that contain hardeners or apply ingredients like gelatin.
FALSE! There is no scientific evidence this is true

Cutting nails makes them grow faster
TRUE? I've read conflicting studies on this, but it works for me. I think it really depends on the person.

You should wait in between manicures because your nails need to breathe
FALSE! Nails are like hair, they are already dead. No need to let them breathe.

Biotin will make your nails grown
TRUE! It will also make your hair grow!

Shake nail polish bottles to mix the separation
FALSE! This causes bubbles, which are not good.

Fingernails should be trimmed straight across
TRUE! This prevents infections, hangnails and discourages you from biting/picking at your nails.

It's good to cut your cuticles
FALSE! This may lead to infection

You can't paint your nails while pregnant
TRUE, but mostly FALSE! There are three ingredients found in certain nail polishes DBP (dibutyl phthalate), toluene and formaldehyde) that are hurtful for the baby. But most major nail polishes don't have them. OPI, Sally Hansen and Essie don't have them. When I was pregnant, I used Zoya nail products.

Artificial nails are a good fix for messed up nails
FALSE! Covering up anything usually is not a good fix for any problem, especially nails. Fake nails can lead to more brittle nails or even a fungal infection.
